MMA veteran Matt Brown had previously advised Tom Aspinall not to wait for Jon Jones and to remain active in the organization. However, Brown now doubts that the Jones vs. Aspinall fight has collapsed, believing that Aspinall would have moved on if he thought the bout wasn’t going to happen. Fans are now starting to see some updates regarding the potential fight.
Brown believes Jones holds more control than most fighters due to the massive interest in a potential fight with Tom Aspinall. While fighters usually have limited leverage with UFC executives like Dana White and Hunter Campbell, Jones’ star power gives him more say in his career. Speaking in a recent interview on The Fighter vs. The Writer via MMA Fighting, the MMA veteran said:
“We don’t know the facts of what’s going on behind the scenes. … If [Tom Aspinall] didn’t think the Jon Jones fight was going to happen, he probably would have taken another fight.”
However, Brown warns that if Jones delays too long or overplays his hand, the UFC won’t wait around — they’ll move on and promote someone else, just like they’ve done before. He adds that although Jones vs. Aspinall is currently the biggest heavyweight fight possible, the UFC has a history of rebuilding divisions and creating new stars when needed.

“As far as I know, the UFC still wants to make the Jones vs Aspinall fight. So far that’s not the option they consider, but our team keeps it in mind.”
