Paddy Pimblett has always been known to come up with controversial ideas. Having defeated Michael Chandler, Pimblett quickly makes a case for a lightweight title run in the UFC. However, while he awaits his next opponent, Pimblett has some curiosity that he wants to get out of his mind. With the latest move from Makhachev, who vacated his lightweight title, Pimblett was surprised as to why the UFC would want to do that.
Pimblett recently shared his thoughts about Makhachev going up to the welterweight division. He opined that since the Dagestani has been fighting people on short notice, there was no point in making him vacate his lightweight gold. Next up, he came up with a shocking idea. Pimblett stated that if anyone needed to be stripped for refusing to fight, it should have been Jon Jones!
“If you’re making Islam vacate, [Jon] Jones needs to be stripped. If you’re making Islam vacate after 4 defenses, fighting people on short notice, you should let him try and be double champ,” said Pimblett.

Surely, the situation with Jon Jones is quite complicated. While Tom Aspinall has been waiting on the wings for a long time, Jones hasn’t responded positively yet. Meanwhile, returning to Pimblett, he recently took a subtle dig at Ilia Topuria, calling him ‘irrelevant.’

“I forgot to mention El Chorizo, that’s how irrelevant he is in my life. I’m ranked higher than him at lightweight,” Pimblett said in an interaction after UFC 314.
