Tom Aspinall is really making some rapid strides. After almost a year’s inactivity, Aspinall was duly rewarded. While Jones announced his retirement, Aspinall was crowned as the new heavyweight champion. And now, he is not willing to waste any time. The English fighter had already stated that he would be an active fighter. And keeping up to his promise, Aspinall has made a major announcement.
Aspinall recently revealed that he has had a conversation with the UFC, and the outcome has been quite positive. According to the new heavyweight champion, he now has a date and an opponent fixed. However, the exact details of when the fight will take place are not yet disclosed. Moreover, the name of the challenger, too, remains a mystery.
“Meetings have been done and I now have a fight…We’ve got a date, we’ve got an opponent to work towards,” Aspinall said via the ‘One on One’ podcast.

Surely, this is a move in the right direction. During Jones’ reign, he was often accused of ‘stalling’ the division. In fact, Aspinall also had some fiery exchanges with ‘Bones.’ And of them also involved Jones’ PED usage!
Tom Aspinall And Jon Jones Go Back And Forth On PED Usage

Aspinall recently addressed Jon Jones as a “piece of sh*t.” Aspinall also stated that Jones must not have been allowed to compete. And the biggest reason was his failed drug tests. Reacting to the same, Jones hit back at Aspinall, saying that he had never used PED in his life. He also pointed out that due to his repeated run-ins with failed tests, certain rules were changed.

“I never took steroids. The evidence is all there. Hence why I was able to fight again, and the rules have been changed for everyone across all sports. Call me the game changer,” said Jones.
