Fans and the MMA community are flooding social media, demanding the UFC strip Jon Jones of the heavyweight title. The frustration stems from ‘Bones’ not agreeing to fight interim champion Tom Aspinall. Meanwhile, Aspinall believes the delay is due to UFC politics, which he feels are beyond his control.
The English fighter previously stated that he no longer cares about Jon Jones—he just wants to fight for the undisputed heavyweight title. In response to that remark, the reigning champion fired back with some trash talk online. Recently, the interim champion was seen training alongside UFC lightweight star Paddy Pimblett. During their session, Aspinall opened up about his frustration with the politics within the organization. Speaking on Paddy ‘The Baddy’s’ YouTube channel, the interim heavyweight champ said:
“It’s a crazy situation, but there’s a lot of politics in there in the UFC at the top levels, and it’s out of my hands. There’s nothing I can really do about it.”
Meanwhile, UFC President Dana White recently addressed the situation during the UFC 316 post-fight press conference, assuring fans that the fight will happen. White emphasized that the matchup is in the works and should take place soon.
