Tom Aspinall now has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. After spending significant time as the UFC interim heavyweight champion, the time is finally here. Aspinall is finally the undisputed heavyweight champion of the UFC. As Jon Jones announced his retirement, Dana White recently crowned Aspinall as the new champion. And now that the handover of reigns is complete, Aspinall is determined to make a positive impact on the same.
For Aspinall, this is a dream-come-true moment. He has been patient and waited for his turn to face Jones. After almost a year of inactivity, the UFC decided to honor his love for the sport by announcing him as the champion. Now, Aspinall is determined to make the heavyweight division active again. Taking to social media, the new champion pointed out that he will be an active champion.
“It’s time to get this Heavyweight division going. An active Undisputed Champion,” Aspinall stated.

Surely, with Jones being sporadic in his activities recently, a lot of question marks loomed around the division. Now, with promises from Aspinall coming in, it will be interesting to see what happens next. Meanwhile, long before Jones announced retirement, his arch-rival, Daniel Cormier, wanted the UFC to strip his title.
Daniel Cormier Wanted The UFC To Strip Jon Jones’ Title

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones have been arch rivals. Although Cormier retired early, Jones continued to be a menacing force in the UFC. However, with the recent situation coming up, Cormier did not seem quite happy. He opined that Jones shows no intention of returning to the octagon. He cited Aspinall as the one truly deserving of the belt. And thus, DC wanted the UFC to strip the title from Jones.

“It’s time to strip him. He doesn’t want to fight Tom. It does not sound like he’s going to fight. It’s time to take the belt and move on and hope that the itch that he talks about comes back, and if it does, stick him there with Tom Aspinall and give him no other choice,” he said.
