In the UFC, fans are always buzzing about dream matchups, and the talk never stops. From Islam Makhachev vs. Ilia Topuria to countless others, the list is endless. But right now, one fight is stealing the spotlight: Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira. It’s the matchup everyone’s talking about, and even the UFC Light Heavyweight champ recently mentioned it as the dream fight he’d want to take on at the moment.
In a recent chat with Caroline Pearce, Alex Pereira shared his thoughts on his dream fight. While acknowledging there are many great fighters out there, he made it clear that right now, the matchup he’s hoping for is Jon Jones vs. him.
He said, “Well, it’s hard to pick one; there are so many fighters around to choose, but right now, Jon Jones’ fight has caught my attention. So I’ll definitely love to do that fight.”
Pereira has been on a complete tear, dominating his opponents with brutal precision, leaving a trail of victims in his wake. On the other hand, Jon Jones has never lost a fight, whether by decision or finish, and has consistently taken down every challenger he’s faced. This fight is shaping up to be absolutely intriguing.
Even more interesting is that Jones has shown more interest in fighting Pereira than in a matchup with Tom Aspinall, which means this dream fight could actually become a reality, especially with everyone clamoring for it.
Chael Sonnen Suggests Scenario: How Jon Jones Vs. Alex Pereira Can Happen?
While the buzz about Jones vs. Pereira might be the biggest fight in the UFC, Sonnen recently suggested a potential path for a Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira fight. He believes that if Pereira’s fans pushed for it and if Pereira wasn’t particularly interested in fighting Magomed Ankalaev, the possibility of Jones coming down to face him could become more likely.

He said, “I mean, if the Pereira army really spoke up – I don’t know how badly Pereira wants to fight Ankalaev…In fact, if you could sign on to fight Ankalaev, or you could entice Jon Jones to come down and do that fight, I think that Pereira would be more in line for that, I’m guessing.”
Chael Sonnen thinks Pereira’s fans could help make a Jon Jones fight happen, but Jones would need to drop back to light heavyweight, a class he once ruled. Interestingly, Jones is ready to vacate the HW belt as well. Indeed, for fans, it would be a dream fight between two champions from different weight classes.
