In UFC and other sports, rumors run wild—from PED accusations to fighters’ backgrounds. Recently, Daniel Cormier echoed claims that Ilia Topuria came from wealth, similar to Arman Tsarukyan. But after an old video surfaced showing Topuria working construction and living humbly, the narrative flipped. The UFC legend publicly apologized for spreading false information, admitting his mistake.
Recently on Good Guy/Bad Guy, Daniel Cormier claimed Ilia Topuria came from family money like Arman Tsarukyan, saying a fight between them would be unusual since both came from wealthy backgrounds. However, fans quickly responded by resurfacing a video where Topuria tells Ariel Helwani he worked four jobs growing up including cashier and security just to make ends meet.
The video directly contradicts DC’s claims, sparking backlash and prompting calls for more responsible reporting in MMA media. He said he likely heard the information from Chael Sonnen and should’ve known better than to believe it. Cormier added that Chael got him again, owning up to the mistake. It’s a reminder that assumptions can be damaging, and every fighter’s journey deserves truth, not speculation.
“Damn I was wrong. I think Chael told me this and I should know better than to listen to Chael! He got me again,” he said.
