On the contrary, many eminent names have stated that the fight must happen. Weighing in on the same, UFC legend Georges St-Pierre has stated how epic it would have been watching the two fight.
St-Pierre mentioned that stylistically, it would be a treat for the fans. On one hand, there was Ilia Topuria. His striking has been proven to be next-level. Knocking out the likes of Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway is surely no child’s play. On the contrary, Islam Makhachev has proven to have a dangerous ground game. The amount of pressure he can exert on his opponents is insane.
“Topuria, when he touches, it [opponent] falls. On the other hand, Makhachev applies so much pressure, he’s an elite grappler. They’re both good in every area. It’s a great fight for the fans,” St-Pierre stated, speaking on ‘BloodyElbow.’

Well, the UFC legend is not wrong at all. The idea of what might happen when two of the best UFC fighters collide has excited the fans to the core. However, in a recent statement, the UFC head honcho, Dana White, mentioned that the fight between the two is still in development.
