Jon Jones recently announced his retirement from the UFC. Despite the ‘ducking’ claims, the MMA world is hailing him as the GOAT of the UFC. The reason? Simple. After stepping into the promotion, Jones has only lost once. And keeping his championship intact, Jones has dominated for a fairly long time. Unfortunately, despite all the positives, UFC icon Demetrious Johnson is not ready to align with the narrative.
Now, Jones has defeated almost everyone in his division. He has gotten over the likes of Glover Teixeira, Daniel Cormier, and more. But there’s one thing that Johnson thinks takes away all the credit. During his reign, Jones has been involved in failed drug tests multiple times. And it is for this reason that Johnson stated that Jones cannot be called a ‘GOAT.’ Following examples of Muhammad Ali, Usain Bolt, Oleksandr Usyk, and more, Johnson said they did not fail a single drug test.
“We’ve never been stripped. And then look at somebody who has been stripped. I’m not saying Jon Jones didn’t do great things — he was an amazing athlete. Name one athlete that is considered the greatest of all time in a sport that’s failed a drug test. You get disqualified,” said Johnson.

"We can have two mountains — a mountain of just clean motherf**** out there. Me, GSP, and Khabib. You have one of the factions of guys like, 'Oh, I failed a drug test.' I’ve never… pic.twitter.com/BsSBaBokcT
Johnson also looked at Jones, saying there were two different mountains for the UFC greats. One is for Jones, who was involved in failed drug tests. And the other for names like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Georges St-Pierre, and more, who never failed a drug test. Meanwhile, as Dana White announced Jones’ retirement after UFC Baku, a prominent MMA expert said some harsh things.
