As per DC, initially hospitalized in Las Vegas, ‘Funky’ was recently airlifted back to Wisconsin for further care. He is still in the hospital, focusing on recovery. Cormier urges everyone to keep Askren and his family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
He said, “Ben had an infection that ultimately overtook his body. He was hospitalized in Vegas, and now he’s been airlifted back to Wisconsin. He’s still in a hospital, trying to recover. We are praying every day for Ben Askren, his recovery, and his family.”

Borralho, a Portuguese speaker, misunderstood a black-and-white tribute from Maycee Barber, interpreting it as confirmation of Askren’s death instead of a supportive message during Askren’s ongoing battle with pneumonia.
