Jean Silva has made it clear he’s ready to help Charles Oliveira prepare for a potential clash with UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria. Known for his sharp fight IQ and attention to detail, Silva believes Topuria has several technical flaws that can be exploited—and he’s confident he can replicate Topuria’s movements perfectly in training.
On his YouTube channel, Silva points out that Topuria tends to overcommit when throwing heavy hooks, often rotating so far that he exposes his back. He referenced Topuria’s bout with Bryce Mitchell, where this happened repeatedly. For Oliveira, who’s deadly in back-taking situations, this kind of mistake could be a huge opening.
He also broke down Topuria’s striking setups, noting that his right straight is very telegraphed. According to Silva, Topuria’s body language gives it away—he adjusts his rear leg, shifts his stance, uses a few specific feints, and then throws what often looks more like an overhand than a clean straight punch. Silva believes a sharp observer like Oliveira could anticipate and counter it.
“There are other moments where he forgets about defense entirely. When he got knocked down by Herbert, he threw a right overhand, then leaned back and threw a left hook. But he dropped his hand while throwing the hook. It was a very wide shot, and he got caught,”
Another key flaw Silva mentions is Topuria’s habit of dropping his guard when slipping his head to one side. Even small head movements, Silva says, cause Topuria to lower the hand on that side, creating a defensive gap. He also pointed to the moment Topuria was knocked down by Jai Herbert, calling it an example of poor defensive awareness.
