Kamaru Usman recently made a strong comeback with a dominant win over Joaquín Buckley, reminding UFC fans why he’s called the ‘Nigerian Nightmare.’ After a string of losses, this performance put him back in the spotlight. However, Sean Brady was quick to respond, challenging Usman and stating he’s also open to fighting Ian Machado Garry. Brady believes it’s time to settle who truly deserves to be the next contender in the welterweight division.
Brady questioned Usman’s position in the title picture after his recent win, despite his star power. He pointed out that with fighters like Islam Makhachev possibly not returning until late 2026 and Shavkat Rakhmonov already in line, the division can’t afford delays. Brady expressed interest in fighting either Usman or Ian Machado Garry, emphasizing that it’s time to move forward and determine a true number one contender without waiting too long.
“Maybe he (Usman) doesn’t fight early until early or late 2026 and then there’s Shavkat [Rakhmonov] there. They’re saying he’s still next [for the title]. So, I don’t know. In my mind, either way, I’ll fight Usman or I’ll fight Ian. It makes sense. I’m here for it. Let’s not wait around. Let’s see who the no. 1 contender is,” he said.
Daniel Cormier Urges Kamaru Usman Not To Fight Sean Brady

Cormier believes that avoiding a fight with Sean Brady might be the smarter move for Kamaru Usman. He sees Brady as a dangerous and youthful contender, comparing his style and intensity to that of Joaquín Buckley. In Cormier’s view, Usman would be better off choosing a more favorable matchup from the top contenders rather than facing someone as tough and relentless as Brady at this stage of his career.
Indeed, with Daniel Cormier raising concerns about the risk Sean Brady poses, it will be interesting to see if Kamaru Usman chooses to accept the challenge. Brady’s youth, intensity, and dominant style make him a tough test for anyone. As Usman looks to rebuild his path to the top, this potential matchup could either reignite his title hopes or prove to be a major setback.
