Running a combat sports promotion is no small task. It takes serious planning, strong leadership, and the ability to manage heated rivalries both in and out of the cage. That’s why, among all the MMA promotions out there, none compare to the UFC. While the Global Fighting League (GFL) once showed promise, it now seems to be losing its grip—and fighters like Renato Moicano and Gilbert Burns haven’t held back in taking shots at them.
Just a few weeks ago, GFL made headlines by signing dozens of UFC veterans and fighters from around the world. From Paige VanZant to Tony Ferguson, the roster was stacked with names that had the potential to get people talking and put the promotion on the map. However, the latest reports are raising serious concerns, especially for those who were hopeful about seeing GFL rise as one of the major players in the MMA world.
According to recent reports, GFL has canceled its first two events, which were set to take place on May 24 and 25 in Los Angeles. This sudden move has sparked serious doubts about the future of the promotion. Wasting no time, the UFC Star’s Show Me The Money podcast took a jab, sharing a photo of GFL’s tombstone with the dates “2025–2025,” hinting at the promotion’s early downfall.

GFL Founder Shared His Thoughts On The Whole Situation

On Wednesday, GFL founder Darren Owen addressed the situation, insisting that this isn’t the end of the road for the promotion. He explained that the cancellation was due to a financial setback, as the main investor failed to meet their April commitment. Owen remains optimistic, stating that they’re working on a solution and aiming to reschedule the events for June 15 and 16, likely outside of California.
