Tom Aspinall vs. Jon Jones has been a dream super fight for the fans. However, in reality, there has been significant back-and-forth as to whether the bout is actually going to take place. Dana White and the UFC have been able to come up with a definite date for the fight until now. Such a prolonged delay is making the fans lose interest in the bout altogether. At least, that is what UFC veteran Chael Sonnen thinks.
In a recent segment uploaded on his YouTube, Sonnen could be seen shedding light on the heavyweight division. He stated that the fans are waiting a bit too long for the UFC to announce the fight. Unfortunately, since they have not received confirmation yet, most fans have stopped believing that they would be getting the fight in real life.
“The interest in this fight is getting less and less. I have my own guesses as to why this fight is dying, and my strongest guess is that the audience doesn’t believe they’re going to get this,” said Sonnen.

Surely, the UFC heavyweight division is quite complicated now. Ever since winning the interim title, Tom Aspinall has been longing to fight Jon Jones. However, on multiple occasions, Jones has turned down the fight. And now, although White has mentioned that the fight will happen, the lack of clarity has made the hype die down. Meanwhile, the prolonged back-and-forth might have been mentally frustrating for Aspinall. Surprisingly, it came as a boon to the UFC interim heavyweight champion.
Tom Aspinall Details Why His Inactivity Was Actually Good

Aspinall has been waiting for his next match for a long time. And while it was quite irritating for him to sit idle, it, in turn, was a good thing. According to a recent update from Aspinall, he has been sick more often than not since last Christmas. Thus, he was not 100% sure of his health all this while.

“As professional athletes, we don’t like to talk about stuff that’s holding us back, like injuries, illnesses, etc. But this year, I’ve actually been ill more times than I ever have in my life… Even though I’m not active, looking back, it’s probably a good thing I haven’t been, because I haven’t been functioning at 100% for a while,” said Aspinall.
