The UFC featherweight division is in turmoil after Ilia Topuria vacated his title. Alexander Volkanovski and Lopes fought for the vacant belt, with Volkanovski reclaiming it. Now, Volkanovski faces two title contenders: Movsar Evloev and Yair Rodriguez. However, Rodriguez is pushing for an immediate title shot and has rejected Evloev’s claim as a contender.
Despite a two-fight losing streak, including losses to Volkanovski and Brian Ortega, Yair Rodriguez is confident that his recent win over Patricio Freire at UFC 314 and his strong name in Mexico will secure him a title shot. Rodriguez believes Volkanovski is open to a rematch, and although it’s up to the UFC, he’s hopeful they will give him the opportunity. Talking to the MMA Junkie the former title challenger said,
“I can say whatever I want, but at the end of the day, the UFC is the one deciding, and Alexander Volkanovski as champion has some power of negotiation in terms of that, but I am confident that they will give me the title shot.”

With the title back around his waist, he’s now focused on facing undefeated rising star Evloev. Volkanovski expressed his respect for Movsar Evloev, given his undefeated record, stating,
“Movsar is undefeated. I like the fact that he’s undefeated. He’s from the younger generation again. For the legacy, that would still mean so much.”
