Danica Patrick isn’t tiptoeing around politics anymore. The former NASCAR and IndyCar driver, made waves this Memorial Day weekend when she stepped out on the golf course proudly wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.
The post, shared on her Instagram, quickly drew attention, not just for the red hat, but for what it says about Patrick’s shift from apolitical athlete to outspoken conservative.
“I love this country,” Patrick wrote, pairing the message with gratitude for military service members and a nod to a safe and memorable Indy 500 weekend. The post wasn’t just a tribute; it was a clear sign that Patrick is owning her political views, even as critics weigh in.
From The Track To The Political Arena

Patrick revealed that she didn’t vote until after retiring from racing. Speaking recently with former NCAA swimmer turned conservative commentator Riley Gaines, she opened up about the moment that sparked her political awakening.
“It was only a little over a year ago that I went to my first ever political event, which was AmFest here in Phoenix, Charlie Kirk’s big event,” she told Gaines.
At the time, she admitted she didn’t even know who Charlie Kirk was. She had avoided politics, even deliberately tuning out the news since 2018. That changed quickly. After attending AmFest and posting a simple message about loving her country, the backlash rolled in.

“It was a divisive comment to so many and grabbed a lot of attention, which was ridiculous,” she said.
That event kicked off a string of appearances, including an interview with Tucker Carlson and a guest spot on Charlie Kirk’s show. “Well, I guess I am in politics now,” Patrick said with a laugh.
Critics have taken aim, especially after she began appearing in public wearing MAGA gear. Still, Patrick isn’t backing down. Her Memorial Day message wasn’t just patriotic, it was personal. “Grateful for the men and women who have sacrificed so much to protect the United States of America. Thank you,” she wrote, standing firm in her beliefs.
Patrick, once silent on political matters, now finds herself part of the conversation. And judging by her words and actions, she doesn’t plan on staying quiet.
