A photo of a heavily armed escort driving alongside NASCAR teams in Mexico City has gone viral on social media this week, drawing many comments and seemingly creating a lot of confusion.
NASCAR is set to host its first points-paying race at the aforementioned location this weekend, but isn’t treating the friction between the U.S. and Mexico like an elephant in the room.
The stock car racing brand actually rolled into the Central American country with a military escort ahead of this weekend’s races.

Mexico is known for its huge motorsports fan base, and NASCAR has tapped into that with its Mexico Series, which has been running for over 20 years.
Still, the current state of affairs suggests that such an event should have been put on hold until things die down.
Hopefully, it all goes peacefully and without incident.
