As Max Verstappen gears up for one of the most glamorous races on the calendar, it’s not just the tight corners of Monte Carlo that have fans talking. Before a single engine roars this weekend, the Red Bull Racing star is already making headlines- not on the track, but out at sea.
Verstappen has just taken delivery of a sleek new superyacht, and it’s nothing short of a statement. The 33-meter vessel, a Mangusta GranSport 33, reflects more than luxury- it reveals the quiet evolution of Verstappen’s off-track persona. With an estimated price tag north of $15 million, the yacht has become the latest symbol of his growing brand presence beyond the paddock.
Floating Fortress Named ‘Unleash The Lion’

Formula 1 insider and veteran photographer Kym Illman shared the details of the high-end yacht, which Verstappen ordered two years ago. Built by Italian shipyard Overmarine, the boat features five bedrooms and carries a name that fans will recognize instantly- Unleash the Lion. It ties directly to Verstappen’s personal branding and matches the initials emblazoned on his private jets.

Illman estimates the base model starts around $12 million, but Verstappen’s personal touches likely increase the final cost. “With the level of customization, it’s probably closer to $15 million,” Illman noted in his coverage this week. He also pointed out that maintaining a vessel of this size runs well over $1.2 million annually, which puts it in the realm of only the sport’s elite.
Unlike many of his peers who dock in Monaco’s crowded harbor, Verstappen moors Unleash the Lion in nearby Cap d’Ail. The location is more discreet, offering privacy away from the Grand Prix’s high-profile frenzy. It’s also conveniently close to the homes of several F1 drivers, including Verstappen himself.

While some might see the yacht as just another indulgence, Illman sees a bigger picture. “It’s part of a brand now,” he explained. “Max isn’t just winning on Sundays. He’s crafting an image that stretches from the track to the Riviera.”
As the world watches the Monaco Grand Prix unfold, Verstappen’s eye-catching arrival on the coastline has already stirred conversation. Whether carving up chicanes or cruising the Med, the reigning champion continues to chart his own course- on his own terms.
