Los Angeles Lakers fans likely never imagined seeing LeBron James and Anthony Davis play for rival teams, especially not this season. The Lakers were content with Davis. But when the Dallas Mavericks presented an offer that included Luka Doncic, the opportunity was too good to pass up. It ultimately led to Davis’ trade to Dallas.
In a recent interview with Andscape, Anthony Davis opened up about how his relationship with LeBron has evolved since the trade. Despite no longer being teammates, Davis assured fans that their connection remains unchanged and also hinted at a summer reunion.
“We’ve been really close, but nothing has changed. We still check in on each other. He texts me all the time. Obviously, we don’t talk hang like we used to just because of the teams and stuff. But I’m sure we will get together over this summer and try to figure it out,” Davis said.

LeBron and Davis formed one of the most dominant duos in recent NBA history. Since Davis joined the Lakers in 2019, the pair has made two appearances in the Western Conference Finals and, of course, led the Lakers to an NBA Championship in 2020. Their chemistry on and off the court was undeniable, and their success together defined the Lakers’ recent era.
LeBron James Speaks On Losing Anthony Davis

It’s not just Davis who is adjusting to life without his former teammate. LeBron James also expressed his feelings about the trade during an interview on The Pat McAfee Show. James, who had developed a deep connection with Davis during their time together, admitted that the change was difficult for him personally.

“I lost a dear friend and a great friend and a champion duo with AD. Miss him to death,” James said.
While both now cope with life from each other, their off-court bond is likely to be the same in the years to come. Lakers and Mavericks fans are surely waiting for the first time Davis and James meet on the court as rivals. The two stars will face off against each other when their teams clash on April 10.
