The New York Knicks had their best playoff run in 25 years, reaching the Eastern Conference finals. But after losing to the Indiana Pacers in six games, it’s clear the team still has work to do. The front office seems ready to make significant changes, and reports suggest they are aiming high.
According to NBA reporter Gery Woelfel, the Knicks are preparing to make a massive offer for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. But they are not stopping there. The team has also asked the Dallas Mavericks for permission to talk with head coach Jason Kidd, who coached Giannis early in his career and helped shape his game. With Tom Thibodeau out, even after leading the team to its best season in years, it’s clear the Knicks are looking for something big.

The Knicks are reportedly preparing a “tsunami-type offer” to trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, per Gery Woelfel.

Team president Leon Rose has already shown a willingness to make bold moves. Last offseason, the Knicks traded four unprotected first-round picks, a pick swap, and a protected pick to get Mikal Bridges. They later traded Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, another first-round pick, and several second-rounders for Karl-Anthony Towns. These deals cost the team many of its future assets, raising doubts about how much more they can offer in trades.
Big Names, Tough Decisions

Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey doubts New York can make another splash without giving something up.“Barring other moves that might rebuild the asset stash, the Knicks just don’t have the assets to meaningfully get in the mix for this summer’s biggest available stars,” he wrote. Instead, he suggests one of the team’s core players could be traded to bring in multiple contributors.
That approach is more realistic. While chasing a star like Giannis’s headlines, the Knicks may need to prioritize depth and versatility. Either way, the front office appears set on taking the next step, and they are not backing down.
