As the NBA free agency is about to begin, the Atlanta Hawks are showing interest in Minnesota Timberwolves guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Initially, the Detroit Pistons pulled ahead in the race, but as per The Stein Line reports, Atlanta is now the favorite spot to land the two-way player in a possible sign-and-trade deal.
Detroit turned its eyes on Alexander-Walker after contract talks with Veteran Malik Beasley’s ongoing legal issues. Beasley is under federal investigation for gambling on NBA games. As his future remains in a blur, the Pistons are now focusing on an alternative replacement. They consider Alexander-Walker to pair his shooting and defense with Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey.
However, Atlanta is running smoothly. They can use their $25.3 million trade exception from the Dejounte Murray trade to the New Orlando Pelicans. That budget can get them Alexander-Walker without any salary cap trouble. However, President Onsi Saleh already made big moves this summer by adding Kristaps Porzingis and a future first-round pick.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker Makes The Perfect Fit For The Atlanta Hawks

At the age of 26, Nickeil Alexander-Walker became one of the league’s most reliable presences. Over the last two seasons, he played all 82 games each year and averaged 9.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 38.1% shooting from three. His ability to guard multiple positions sets him apart from the rest.
The Hawks need more consistent perimeter shooting and stronger defensive depth, and the young man can contribute effectively in both areas. Most importantly, the Hawks don’t have to give up any key members to make the move.
If the Hawks can make the deal successful, they will add a dependable two-way contributor without affecting their core. Detroit could be left with a major miss in their backcourt plans.
