If you are also speculating on Austin Reaves’s trade this offseason, stop. His agent has a strong and clear message for all those rumors.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ rising star has found himself in the middle of some offseason chatter about potential trades. And like any other linkups, it’s stirred up quite a buzz.
His agent, Aaron Reilly, took to social media to clear the air with a fiery message.
“Next year is going to be a show. People have no idea what’s to come. Keep putting him in trade rumors for second-string centers,” Reilly said.

Clearly, Reilly isn’t happy about the talk surrounding Reaves, and he’s making it known that the young player has a lot to offer.
Last season, Reaves had a breakout year. He averaged 20.2 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.5 rebounds, all while shooting 46% from the field and nearly 38% from three-point range.

With Luka Doncic’s arrival, Reaves really stepped up and formed a dynamic trio alongside LeBron James. His growth as a shot creator and playmaker made him a favorite among fans and a respected player across the league.
Despite his impressive rise, trade rumors have been swirling, primarily due to the Lakers’ urgent need for a strong center. With Anthony Davis gone and experimental lineup choices like Jaxson Hayes and Maxi Kleber, it’s understandable why other teams might see Reaves as an attractive trading chip.
Austin Reaves Is Still Under Lakers’ Contract

While there was quite a buzz around Austin Reaves’ potential trade, it is nowhere near fruition after his agent’s fiery message.
However, Reilly’s comments noted just how off-base those rumors seem if the Lakers would entertain trading Reaves only for an elite big man like Nic Claxton or Daniel Gafford.
Reaves is still under contract, and while there’s a team option for 2026-27, he’s expected to opt out and seek a significant payday. He could potentially command up to $42.5 million a year as a free agent.
That’s certainly got front offices buzzing, but it also puts Reaves at the center of scrutiny after a postseason dip in performance. He averaged 16.2 points while nursing a toe injury.
Nevertheless, it’s hard to argue against Reaves’ impact on the Lakers’ successful 50-win season. As of now, the Lakers’ front office, led by JJ Redick, seems committed to keeping him around long-term. As he would be a key piece of what they’re building alongside Doncic and LeBron.
