Yes, Bill Schoening, the esteemed radio voice of the Spurs, has announced his retirement at the end of the 2024-25 season.
His final broadcast will be on Sunday, April 13, when the Spurs face the Toronto Raptors. It will mark an incredible milestone of 2,280 consecutive games without missing a single contest.
The San Antonio Spurs official X (formerly Twitter) account shared the news through a tweet and appreciated his contribution to the franchise.
“Cheers to 24 years! Bill Schoening, the longtime radio voice of the Spurs, will retire at the end of the season signing off for the final time on Sunday, April 13th. Thank you, Bill for the unforgettable calls and commentary for the last 2,280 consecutive games! Forever a part of the Spurs Family and the franchise’s history,” the official statement read.

He has delivered unforgettable calls since the 2001-02 season. His broadcasting career has spanned over four decades. It began with 12 years at the University of Texas and included notable assignments at renowned venues such as Lambeau Field, Yankee Stadium, and the Rose Bowl.
Schoening Shared His Emotions While Talking About Retiring From San Antonio Spurs Broadcasting

While it’s not easy to say a final goodbye to something you’ve done for 24 long years, Schoening let his true emotions flow.
“It’s difficult to walk away from a job that has provided so many fond memories and spawned many meaningful relationships, but it’s time for me to step away from full-time broadcasting and pursue some other interests like mentorship, volunteer work and time with family,” the Spurs broadcaster said.

Schoening expressed his mixed feelings about retiring, mentioning the fond memories and meaningful relationships formed throughout his career. He looks forward to pursuing interests like mentorship, volunteer work, and spending time with family.
Throughout his time with the Spurs, he has called four championships and witnessed the legendary Big Three’s games.
He has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Associated Press “Top Texas Play-by-Play Award” and the Texas Sportscaster of the Year award in 2014. In 2022, he was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
Beyond sports broadcasting, Schoening is also a singer-songwriter, having released original music and authored a book titled “Stories, Sports and Songs: Tales and Tunes by a Play-by-Play Lifer.”
