Bronny James’ rookie campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers didn’t quite meet expectations. The 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft found it difficult to adjust during the regular season. It prompted head coach JJ Redick to assign him to the South Bay Lakers in the G-League. Unlike his NBA outings, Bronny showed significant progress in the G-League, where he improved steadily.
The Lakers kicked off their Summer League campaign against the Golden State Warriors in the California Classic on Saturday. However, Bronny James wasn’t in the lineup. During a recent interview, Bronny was asked about what it would take to earn minutes on the court.
“It’s definitely made me think about being more aggressive on that end of the floor, but I can’t lose that defensive drive that will get me on the floor because there’s gonna be guys that can score 15, 20 a game,” James said.

“I’m most likely not going to be that guy right now. To get myself on the floor, I’ve got to be a defensive menace. That’s my main focus, getting conditioned this year. It’s been shown that I know how to score the ball a little bit, I’m staying true to that, but also focusing on the defensive end,” he added.
Though his numbers didn’t shine, Bronny made history last season. He became part of the first active father-son duo in NBA history, playing alongside his legendary father, LeBron James. That moment marked a milestone for the league and his career.

During a recent media session, Bronny James was asked to weigh in on the ongoing speculation surrounding his father, LeBron James, and where the NBA legend might play next season. While rumors have been swirling about LeBron’s future, Bronny made it clear that it’s not a topic that dominates their conversations.
“There’s a lot of stuff going around that I don’t really pay attention to. But I think when stuff like that does come up, he just tells me to not worry about it, not even pay attention to it. Just laugh at anything that you have going on right now,” he said.
In his debut NBA season, Bronny appeared in 27 games, averaging just 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game. However, his time in the G-League was a different story. He posted averages of 18.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game over 18 games.
