After months of speculations and missed opportunities, the Bulls finally took a significant step. Ball missed the entire 2022 and 2023 seasons due to multiple knee surgeries. He averaged 7.2 points, 3.5 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 30 games this season. The numbers are far lower than his earlier days with the New Orleans Pelicans and his first season with the Chicago Bulls. The decision came late as the Bulls believed Ball could be a core presence in the future.
The Athletic’s John Holinger earlier reported that the Bulls declined an offer for Lonzo Ball, which included a first-round pick. The move surprised many, as Ball was dealing with injuries, and the team was trying to rebuild.

The trade includes Issac Okoro to Chicago’s depth. He is a versatile forward and very skilled defensively. The swap highlights that the Bulls are trying to balance young and experienced players on the roster with the opportunity for flexibility. Okoro adds energy and elite defense, which is something the team lacked this season.

The Bulls have many players signed and have avoided a complete rebuild so far. Whether this decision favors the Bulls to make their playoff presence or not, this trade could be the start of something bigger changes as the team is heading into their next season.
