With the NBA draft just around the corner, the Dallas Mavericks may show their hand early. Copper Flagg, the top prospect out of Duke, is already in Dallas for what looks like his only pre-draft visit. That, along with months of praise from team staff, points strongly to the Mavericks taking him with the No. 1 overall pick.
Dallas stunned everyone by winning the draft lottery with just a 1.8% chance. They jumped from 11th to first, one of the most significant leaps in lottery history. Now, they can add one of the most hyped young players in recent memory.
Flagg’s visit included dinner with Mavericks officials and a light on-court component, according to Insider Marc Stein. He did not visit or work out for any other team. Head coach Jason Kidd openly commented about his excitement, saying, ”The draft is deep, but as the name you just brought up, I think we’re all focused on.”
Cooper Flagg update: Next week's No. 1 overall pick is indeed in Dallas as scheduled, had dinner tonight with a contingent of team officials … with his visit scheduled to include what one source termed a "light on-court component."

Flagg had a standout season at Duke. He averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.4 blocks, leading the team in every major stat and taking them to the final four. However, Flagg also won the national college player of the year award and made first-team All-American.
A New Beginning For the Dallas Mavericks

Drafting Flagg would be a big step towards a new era in Dallas. For team president Nico Harrison and the front office, it’s a chance to bounce back after the much-criticized Luka Doncic trade. Many fans felt the Mavericks gave up too much and got too little in return.

Injuries to Anthony Davis and a 10th-place finish in the West only added to the team’s struggles. But landing the No. 1 pick gives Dallas a rare shot at a reset. With Flagg likely coming in, the team can start fresh with a young star full of potential.
