
Deandre Ayton wrote a heartfelt farewell tribute to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Ayton signed a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers after a buyout with Portland. The 26-year-old had a poor season with 15.7 average points and 10.7 rebounds while shooting 56.0% over two injury-limited seasons in Portland.
“@lakers I’M READY. Let’s get to work,” the former Blazers posted a direct message to his new team on Instagram. He also wrote about his former team, “Big up to my teammates, ya’ll the realest✊🏽The entire coaching staff, thank you for your leadership. I appreciate going to battle with ya’ll.”
Ayton will be taking charge of the Lakers’ starting center position as a replacement for Jaxson Hayes. Hayes showed his growth and energy, while Ayton will provide skill, experience, and his offensive versatility.
The Lakers struggled with size in the playoffs as they got outplayed by the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. Lakers’ golden duo and playmakers like Luka Doncic and LeBron James are expected to be in the lineup. Ayton’s arrival could boost the energy with plenty of hard work.
