The Minnesota Timberwolves breathed a collective sigh of relief Saturday when the NBA announced that Anthony Edwards’ 18th technical foul had been rescinded. Edwards had received the foul during the second quarter of Friday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets.
The foul call initially made him ineligible for the team’s crucial regular-season finale due to league rules. However, not everyone was thrilled about the NBA’s decision.
Detroit Pistons guard Dennis Schroder didn’t hide his frustration. In an Instagram story, Schroder questioned the league’s consistency and fairness when it comes to disciplinary decisions. He pointed out a perceived double standard that he and others, particularly players like Isaiah Stewart and Dillon Brooks, have faced in the past.
“LOVE TO COMPETE AGAINST THIS GUY!!! BUT NBA THIS IS INSANE!! IF THIS WOULD BE STEW, ME OR DILLON BROOKS WE WOULD BE SUSPENDED!!!!” Schroeder wrote.

The potential suspension came at a terrible time for both Edwards and the Timberwolves, as the team fights to lock in a direct playoff spot. With the foul now rescinded, Edwards remains eligible to play in the critical final game of the regular season. The reversal drops his total technical fouls for the season back to 17.

In the Timberwolves’ 117-91 win over the Nets on Friday, Edwards had one of his quietest performances of the season. While Edwards had a tough outing, it was Rudy Gobert who stepped up in a big way. After the game, Edwards smiled as he praised Gobert, though with a playful edge.
“I’m pissed off. I’m pissed off at him. He’s supposed to have 40 tonight,” Edwards said.
The big man tied his career high with 35 points, adding 11 rebounds and shooting 13-of-17 from the field in just 33 minutes. On the other hand, Edwards finished with just nine points, four rebounds, and five assists. He also struggled from deep, hitting only one of his seven attempts from beyond the arc.
