According to ESPN, former Dallas Mavericks point guard J.J. Barea will join the Nuggets to assist head coach David Adelman and lead the Team from the front next season.
JJ Barea, a 2011 NBA champion with the Dallas Mavericks, has agreed to join the Denver Nuggets as an assistant coach under David Adelman, sources tell ESPN. Barea will be on the front of the Nuggets coaching bench.

This will not be the first time for the Puerto Rican Guard. He led teams in Puerto Rico’s top league and briefly worked as a player development coach with the Mavericks. He has complete leadership experience, which will benefit Nuggets’ depth to grow and shine.
At 41, Barea played 14 seasons in the NBA and won a title with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. He is known for his gusty play in that final series and helped the Mavericks defeat LeBron James and the Miami Heat. Over his career, he averaged 8.9 points and 3.9 assists per game.
Barea brings toughness, a strategic mindset, and a winning experience. He will provide the best mentorship alongside the head coach and help the Nuggets chase their NBA title.
