The Los Angeles Lakers indeed hit the jackpot when they acquired Luca Doncic earlier in February 2025. Although the Slokolvian star’s calf strain restricted him from being out for a few games, his debut game against Utah Jazz certainly was memorable, even for the franchise.
His consistent performance over the last couple of months indeed helped the Lakers regain their lost luster. However, for Doncic’s previous franchise, Dallas Mavericks, it’s been a tough ride on the points table of the 2025 season.
Now, after over two months since Luka Doncic joined the Lakers, the Slokovian star will visit for the first time in his previous home, Dallas, this coming week. And ESPN’s Tim MacMahon’s report suggested that the Mavs were planning to work with Doncic again.
They tried to work things out with multiple sponsors aligned with the 26-year-old to promote his return to Dallas. However, they didn’t work out as Doncic’s team denied the player’s blessings.
In addition, the report also revealed that Slokovian responded with a message that he is now part of the Lakers.

With excitement and anticipation at their peak, fans and experts wonder what kind of reception Luca Doncic will get this Saturday. However, the Dallas Mavericks are least concerned about that and are focusing on welcoming their former star with a surprise gesture.
The NBA restricts teams from using the name, image, or likeness of players who are not on their roster. So, to tackle that, the Mavs found a unique way to thank their former star point guard. They printed T-shirts and flooded their arena by putting them onto their seats to pay homage to Doncic’s time on the team. Notably, the shirts say “Thanks for everything” in Slovenian.

This was a way for the team to have a general Luka Doncic tribute without using his name or anything else to directly identify him. While fans speculate that things have not been going well between Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks ever since the trade, the team is still trying to make up with their former player.
It is noteworthy that Slokovian, as a player, had a remarkable journey with the Dallas Mavericks, and his run with the Los Angeles Lakers seems impressive so far.
