The Cleveland Cavaliers made their journey to the 2025 playoffs with high hopes following a stellar 64-win season. Their championship aspirations drained out with the Game 5 loss. In the presence of an injured roster, Donovan Mitchell stood out, carrying a significant load with an impressive 34.2 points average in the second round. Ultimately, even Mitchell’s high-scoring efforts and playing through injury, they could not survive and prevent their further run to the finals with a disappointing five-game series loss to the Indiana Pacers.
Following the 114-105 Defeat, Mitchell delivered a reply with a heavy heart in the postgame conference, stating, “Y’all gonna write us the f*ck off man. But will be back. We let the city down, we let each other down but will be back.”

Donovan Mitchell’s Return To Home Court After Elimination In Game 5

Mitchell’s raw emotion at the Cavaliers’ elimination from the playoffs was evident. He returned to the empty arena, sitting courtside in defiance of their series exit.
Speaking about the postgame conference, he opened up about that moment. “Just couldn’t believe it. Um, didn’t want to believe it. Don’t want to believe it. Still don’t want to believe it. It’s tough. It’s tough to win this league. Give them credit. We didn’t do the things necessary. I love playing in that fucking arena, man,” he stated.

His frustration reflected the missed opportunity, especially in front of the home crowd. “I love playing in that fucking arena, man. Like that energy, that crowd. We’re owning three at home, you know? Let the city down, man. That’s what makes this place special. This place is special. And we didn’t get it done,” he further added.
Mitchell acknowledged the team would be judged by its playoff exit, but accepting criticism, he chose to focus on the future. He questioned what the team would do next year and strongly highlighted that they would consider the downfall as motivation. With the leadership role, Mitchell will work harder with the team for a stronger comeback next season.
