Following their Game 4 defeat on Sunday, the Los Angeles Lakers now face the daunting task of climbing out of a 3-1 hole in the playoff series. The challenge is steep for Dorian Finney-Smith’s team and the odds are against them.
Still, there’s a flicker of belief within the team, and that belief is rooted in history. LeBron James’ legendary comeback with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals.
During the post-game press conference, Finney-Smith addressed the team’s current predicament. When asked about being down 3-1 in the series, Finney-Smith expressed confidence, referencing James’ past achievements as a source of motivation.
“Well, I’ve seen Bron do it already. We still feel like we can win this series. Just got to win one game at a time. Obviously, we put ourselves in harm’s way, but we gotta figure it out as a team,” Finney-Smith said.

The Lakers now lean on a promising young core featuring Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and rookie Dalton Knecht. Meanwhile, LeBron James serves as the experienced leader in the locker room. Despite the uphill battle, Finney-Smith and his teammates are holding onto the hope that with unity and resilience, they can still flip the script.

After Game 3, Dorian Finney-Smith highlighted Doncic’s heart and grit, especially while playing through pain and illness. Finney-Smith was clearly impressed by his teammate’s determination to keep fighting for the team, even though he wasn’t at 100 percent.
“Just him fighting. He was fighting to trying to be there for us. I didn’t think he was gonna come out for the second half. I was like god damn, you’re sick and you’re getting beat up still. He’s just a tough guy. I know he wants to win. He’ll be ready next game,” Finney-Smith said.
Doncic then returned in Game 4 with full health and whole spirit. He then played 46 minutes and scored a team-high 38 points, though ultimately lost the game. The Lakers will try to keep their season alive as they face the Timberwolves again on Wednesday in a must-win situation.
