During the intense playoff clash between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets, emotions boiled over between Draymond Green and Fred VanVleet. In Game 2 of the series, the two exchanged fiery words in a moment that quickly escalated and required them to be physically separated.
Despite the tension, Green has since admitted the altercation went too far and wasn’t worth the fallout. During an appearance on The Pivot podcast, Green opened up about how he immediately regretted his actions.
“Me and Fred got into it Game 3. I said some choice words that, as soon as I said them, I knew it right away. That series went 7, I never said the words again the rest of the series,” Green said.

Later in the podcast, Green recounted how he and VanVleet ran into each other at a restaurant. The moment gave them a chance to clear the air. According to Green, VanVleet didn’t waste any time addressing the confrontation.
“He’s like, ‘Yo, I need to talk to you,’ as soon as I got to the table. ‘What you said, The words you said,’ as soon as he starts, I said, ‘I’m sorry. I was wrong.’ And I knew it right away,” he added.

Green has never shied away from voicing bold opinions. In the latest episode of his podcast, he discussed the NBA’s scheduling format. Green believes the time has come to reevaluate the length of the regular season to better suit the modern game’s physical demands.
“I don’t know that it’s necessarily a rule that I care most about; I would shorten the season. I just think it’s too many games, and at the speed that the game is played at today. No disrespect to the guys that came before me, but they used to walk the ball up the court. I just think the season is a little long,” Green said.
Some fans cherish the sustainability of the current 82-game regular season. But according to many players, there should be a system that supports player longevity and peak performance.
