The shockwaves from Luka Doncic’s midseason trade continue to ripple through the NBA community. The deal surprised not only fans but also individuals within the Mavericks organization itself. Even Mark Cuban, the team’s minority owner, was reportedly caught off guard when news of the blockbuster trade surfaced.
Before tip-off of Game 2 of the NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers on Sunday, former Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson made a bold statement in response to the controversial trade. Nelson made it clear he wasn’t happy with the front office’s decision to part ways with their franchise star.
“I want everybody to know I’m wearing Luka’s shoes, his new shoes from Nike. And I’m wearing them in protest for the trade from Dallas. I think it was a tremendous mistake by the Dallas franchise to trade him. I want everybody to know that,” Nelson said.

The infamous trade saw Doncic traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis just before the trade deadline. Both players were unaware of the trade discussion. At that time, Luka was preparing for a comeback from injury. He indeed came back, but in a Lakers jersey.
Kobe And Gigi Mural Vandalized Again After Luka Doncic’s Generous Donation

Since becoming a Laker, Doncic has shown a deep respect for the franchise’s legacy, which includes honoring one of the greatest to ever wear purple and gold, Kobe Bryant. Recently, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to raise $5,000 to restore a beloved mural in downtown Los Angeles featuring Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna.

The mural was then restored after Doncic stepped in. Recently, the Lakers’ star covered the full cost of the mural’s restoration with a single paycheck.
Luka’s generous act ensured the mural was brought back to life and preserved for the community that holds Kobe and Gigi’s memory close. Sadly, the mural was vandalized once again shortly after the restoration. Still, his efforts did not go unnoticed.
