The Los Angeles Clippers may be looking for a significant move this offseason. Former guard Lou Williams believes LaMelo Ball could remain the conversation’s center. The third time sixth, one of the year, suggested the Clippers may target Ball in a potential trade with the Charlotte Hornets.
Williams addressed that bringing in a new point guard could enable James Harden to shift back to a scoring role instead of his current playmaking duties.
“I can see the Clippers making a play for a premier point guard,” Williams stated, and added, “I know they’ve been in the market for one. They’ve been trying to figure out what they’re going to do at that position.”
Williams further added that Charlotte’s draft strategy could signal its intentions. “If they draft another point guard, they’re showing you their hand. They’re showing you that they’re possibly going to move in a different direction.”
LaMelo Ball signed a five-year, $260 million extension last summer and could become tradeable if the Charlotte Hornets shift their focus. A move to Los Angeles would bring Ball back to his home state of California, adding a personal layer to the potential deal. Such a trade could significantly impact the Clippers and the Hornets as they look to reshape their rosters and direction heading into the 2025 season.
