The Oklahoma City Thunder kicked off the 2024-25 NBA season with an amazing start and wrapped up the regular season in a really impressive spot. Their strong performance has definitely made a solid argument for them to take home the title this year. However, former NBA player Gilbert Arenas holds a differing opinion for one specific reason.
During a recent episode of the Gil’s Arena Show, Arenas sparked controversy with his comments about the Oklahoma City Thunder. He flat-out dismissed their chances of winning the championship this season and questioned whether they would even make it to the NBA Finals.
“To reach the Finals? I give them 0%,” Arenas said.

Arenas believes that the Thunder are still too young to reach the finals. The OKC finished the regular 2024-25 NBA season as the first seed in the Western Conference standings with a 68-14 record.
Arenas Breaks Down His Views On The Thunder’s Chances For Finals Success

During the discussion, Arenas shared his perspective on why he believes the Thunder will not reach the NBA Finals. He analysed the team’s roster construction and highlighted the status of ongoing contracts. Arenas emphasised that the significant hurdle for the Thunder lies in successfully retaining their promising young core as they look toward the future.

“If this was a big city…they’re going to figure it out. But the fact that they are in OKC, and it’s a smaller market team, you’re going to have to pay Shai the bank this summer. Chet can ask for money. Jalen- You can’t lock these!” Arenas said during the recent episode of the Gil’s Arena Show.
The Thunder’s opponent in Round 1 of the playoff series has yet to be determined. Arenas is known for being very outspoken. Recently, he suggested that Nico Harrison was merely a scapegoat in the ongoing drama involving Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis.
