Social media had a lot to say about Gordon Hayward’s new haircut.
The Charlotte Hornets forward introduced a brand new look while speaking to the media on Friday, and he’s almost unrecognizable.
Hayward used to apply gel and neatly comb his hair. His hairstyle is so popular that a quick search on YouTube will offer plenty of tutorials on how one can get his haircut and beard.
But the former Utah Jazz All-Star decided to change up his look drastically, at least for a short period of time. Take a look at Hayward’s brand new hairdo, as well as some of the top reactions from social media.
Hayward is entering his third season with the Hornets, having signed a four-year pact worth $120 million after his Boston Celtics were eliminated by the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.
In his first season with the Hornets, Hayward averaged 19.6 points (the third-best mark of his career), 5.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. Last season, he averaged 15.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per contest.
Charlotte qualified for the play-in tournament, but they were eliminated after losing 132-103 to the Atlanta Hawks. Atlanta went on to eliminate the Cleveland Cavaliers in the final play-in game to snag the final playoff spot in the East.
The Hornets concluded preseason play on Wednesday, losing to the Philadelphia 76ers 99-94. Hayward paced the Charlotte offense with 16 points to go along with seven rebounds. Charlotte will open their season on Wednesday with a road tilt against the San Antonio Spurs.
Excluding their play-in berth, the Hornets have only made the playoffs once since 2015. That was back in 2016, when they were swept by the Dwyane Wade-led Miami Heat in the opening round.
The franchise last won a playoff series in 2001-02, defeating the Orlando Magic in four games before falling to the New Jersey Nets in round two.
