Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been in some form this season. Right from the beginning, Gilgeous-Alexander has been in top shape. While he impressed in the regular season, SGA was duly awarded. Picking up the NBA MVP ahead of the finals, the expectations were sky-high. But Gilgeous-Alexander did not fail to disappoint. He also had a spectacular run in the finals to ensure a victory for the Oklahoma City Thunder. And in the process, Gilgeous-Alexander also clinched the finals MVP.

Gilgeous-Alexander had a whopping average of 32.7 points per game. Over the course of the season, SGA had 49 games where he scored more than 30 points! And this is just his attack. Gilgeous-Alexander has also been a phenom on the Thunder’s defensive end. He had an impressive 78th percentile block rate combined with an 87th percentile steal rate. Well, if that sounds impressive, then there’s more. The OKC had a stupendous +16.9 per 100 every time Gilgeous-Alexander was on the floor! And with so many accolades making SGA’s current season run historic, here’s how he stands when compared to the NBA legends.
LeBron James

Undoubtedly, LeBron James had his best season back in the 2012-13 season. Playing for the Miami Heat, James was hungry to bag consecutive NBA rings. And not only did he accomplish it, he did it in style. James dropped an average of 26.3 points per game. He also coupled it with 8 rebounds and 7.3 assists. Under his leadership, James led the Heat to winning 27 games back to back in the regular season. Playing in the finals, James dropped 37 points to clinch the game from San Antonio Spurs 4-3.
Kobe Bryant

Donning the Los Angeles Lakers’ colors, Kobe Bryant had his best season in 2005-06. Impressing throughout the season, Bryant averaged a solid 35 points per game. And if this was not enough, he also dropped 62 points in 3 quarters against a formidable opponent. And of course, who could forget Bryant’s legendary 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors? Unfortunately, despite being on fire, Bryant failed to lead the Lakers to an NBA championship. They ultimately fell to the Phoenix Suns, marking an end to a glorious run.

Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan’s best season came with the Chicago Bulls back in 1995-96. Riding on the back of some basketball magic from Jordan, the Bulls notched up 72 wins. Playing in the regular season, Jordan dropped 30.4 points per game on average. He also had 6.6 rebounds. Jordan’s performance peaked in the playoffs, where his average read a scintillating 30.7 points per game, with 4.9 rebounds. To date, Jordan’s performance in 1995-96 is regarded as the best individual performance in the NBA. Jordan not only earned the NBA MVP, but he also set the three-point record. Flaunting a 42.7 three-point field goal percentage, ‘His Airness’ dropped 111 threes!
Surely, when compared to the legends, there are some areas that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander would like to work on. However, his impeccable stats this season sits right in the same bracket as that of the NBA stalwarts. Thus, with the championship under his belt, SGA will surely look to take his performance a notch higher as the coming season approaches.
