Victor Wembanyama entered the NBA in 2023 with sky-high expectations and a slim frame that left many wondering if he could handle the physical demands of the league. Two years later, the San Antonio Spurs star proved that he can compete and thrive while making smart changes to his body.
On a recent episode of Kevin Hart’s Cold as Balls, Wembanyama shared that he has gained about 30 pounds since joining the NBA. “I gained probably like 30 lbs,” he said. He also explained he came in at 215 to 220 pounds and now weighs around 245. But he made it clear this was a careful process. “Strength training, of course,” Victor Wembanyama added. “But the main thing for me is I could, in theory, put on a lot of weight, but I would lose some of my mobility, “Some of my athleticism.”

Victor Wembanyama’s agent, Bouna Ndiaye, agrees with him and says they never focused on just putting on weights.“We’re not focused at all on weights. I don’t want to put weight on his body. We’re going to fight not to put weight on his body. The weight on his body is a big mistake. We focus on strength and core,” Ndiaye said via Yahoo Sports. He pointed to NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s lean frame as an example of the path they want to follow with Wembanyama.
Victor Wembanyama’s On-Court Journey Went Far Beyond His Physicality

The added strength has only improved Wembanyama’s game. Before being sidelined by a shoulder issue last season, the 21-year-old averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks per game. The health issue was not linked to his frame, and he is likely to return fully healthy for the 2025-26 season.
Even as a rookie, Victor Wembanyama impressed by playing 71 games. He won the Rookie of the Year honors and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting. He is now stronger, more experienced, and ready to take the next step in his young career. The forward has been studying other NBA legends to improve his game.
