After sitting out a game against the Orlando Magic due to a left ankle sprain, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum made his return in Friday’s matchup against the Charlotte Hornets. In his comeback, he delivered a well-rounded performance with 16 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists and helped the Celtics secure a dominant 130-94 victory.
The Celtics are scheduled to face the Hornets again on Saturday. All signs point to Tatum suiting up once more. He logged 32 minutes on Friday with ease, showing no visible signs of discomfort and leaving little room for concern regarding his readiness for back-to-back action.
Tatum is continuing to shine this season for the Celtics. He’s currently averaging 27.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game.
Tatum’s consistent health has also been a key asset for the team. Since his debut in 2017, he has only played fewer than 70 games in a season twice, and he appeared in 80 games during his rookie year alone.

ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins is putting his faith in Jayson Tatum to make the biggest impact. On a recent episode of First Take, Perkins boldly named Tatum as the most dangerous star heading into the postseason and the one with the most to prove.

“I gotta go with Jayson Tatum. He’s a guy that has been slept on this entire season. I have him top five in the MVP conversation, and I think he’s gonna be on the mission. I also believe that he has the most to prove. I’ve never seen an NBA champion more disrespected,” Perkins said.
Tatum has yet to win an NBA MVP award. His leadership helped secure Boston’s recent title. But an NBA MVP trophy has so far eluded him. Whether this postseason finally delivers Tatum the recognition he’s earned remains one of the biggest questions surrounding the NBA playoffs.
