Before the Celtics faced off against the Wizards, franchise legend Paul Pierce voiced strong support for Jayson Tatum. Pierce didn’t hold back as he addressed the criticism surrounding Tatum’s career.
“He has something to play for because he’s probably the most disrespected superstar to play in our league. Look what they did to him in the Olympics. It seems like it’s always something about Jayson Tatum that doesn’t sit well with people,” Pierce said.
Tatum, who helped the Celtics clinch an NBA title last season, was surprisingly sidelined during parts of the Paris Olympics. Still, Tatum hasn’t let that situation slow him down. When given the opportunity, he displayed his scoring ability on the international stage. More importantly, he’s kept that momentum going into the current NBA season, averaging 26.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game.
