The Jamaica basketball team is setting its sights on making history by qualifying for its first-ever Olympic Games. And they’re not just dreaming big; they’re building big to assemble an elite squad filled with rising NBA stars.
According to Daniel Blake of the Jamaica Observer, the Jamaica Basketball Federation is actively in talks with several NBA stars, including Scottie Barnes, Isaiah Stewart, and Devin Vassell. All three players have Jamaican heritage and are seen as potential game-changers for the program.
The recruitment doesn’t stop there. Twin brothers Amen and Ausar Thompson officially started the passport process just last week. Before taking this step, Amen Thompson publicly expressed that he and his brother were more than willing to represent their roots.

If all goes according to plan, the national team could feature a blend of explosive athleticism. The presence of NBA-level talent doesn’t guarantee success, but it does give Jamaica its best shot at making a splash on basketball’s biggest international stage.
Norman Powell Commits To Jamaica Basketball Team

The commitment doesn’t stop there. Veteran guard Norman Powell of the Los Angeles Clippers has also pledged to represent Jamaica. In an announcement shared by the Jamaica Basketball Association on social media, Powell expressed his excitement and determination.

“I’m super excited to join Team Jamaica. Coach Turner and I have worked on this for a while, and now it’s a reality. I’m ready to grind and need everyone’s support to make it happen,” Powell said.
Powell’s leadership and championship experience could be a crucial asset for the team, especially when paired with the energy and versatility of the younger stars Jamaica is hoping to recruit. If these recruitment efforts come together, the island nation could soon be home to one of the most exciting teams in international basketball.
