The Oklahoma City Thunder have locked in one of their key rotational players, Jaylin Williams. The move comes after the Thunder declined his $2.1 million team option and chose to give the young star a long-term deal.
Williams turned 23 the same day the deal was announced. He missed the early part of last season due to his hamstring injury, but once healthy, he played a significant role on the court. In the absence of Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein, he contributed to the team with his elite defense. The team leaned on his presence through a deep playoff run.
On Sunday, League sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the young, reliable player agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. A second-round pick in the 2022 NBA draft grew into a core piece under Mark Daigneault’s leadership.

His numbers define his on-court importance. Williams averaged 5.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in the 47 games last season. But his impact goes beyond the box score. He shot a sharp 39.9% from beyond the arc and offered vital spacing for his team.
Jaylin Williams Remains A Situational Asset In The Oklahoma City Thunder’s Core

Williams’ role expanded in the postseason. The Thunder used his size and shooting to match the Denver Nuggets’ depth. Though he averaged just under 10 minutes per game in 27 career playoff appearances, his 38.3% shooting from three in a stretch demonstrated his value as a future asset.

Apart from his on-court presence, Williams became a fan favorite player in the Thunder for his locker room presence and lighthearted personality. He shares a strong bond with the rest of the roster, including the big man, Jalen Williams.
Represented by Marcus Monk and Sean Kennedy, Jaylin has more security and a steady role in the Thunder’s lineup. The new deal highlights the team’s belief in the young man’s growth and the value of his ability beyond stats.
