The blockbuster trade of Jimmy Butler seems to have injected a lease of new life into the Golden State Warriors. Unfortunately, that is all the positives that the Warriors can take away from this season. With just 30 wins and 27 losses, Stephen Curry and co. have been languishing at 9th in the West. One of the biggest reasons for such a poor showing can be attributed to injuries. Leading the lot is none other than the Congolese star Jonathan Kuminga.
While Kuminga started off really well, he unfortunately sprained his right ankle. Playing against the Memphis Grizzlies back in January 2025, Kuminga dropped 13 points in 15 minutes when he got injured. Thankfully, after a long break, the Warriors’ head coach, Steve Kerr, has had some good news.
“He looked good…Everything is coming along as we hoped,” Kerr stated, speaking about Kuminga’s recovery.
Steve Kerr told @WillardAndDibs Jonathan Kuminga scrimmaged full-court with the team today for the first time since spraining his ankle. He will be with the team on this upcoming road trip.

"He looked good…Everything is coming along as we hoped."
He further explained that Kuminga has also scrimmaged full-court for the very first time. This is surely a fantastic piece of news for the fans. Kerr also upped the ante further by saying that the Congolese star will accompany the team on the upcoming road trip. Now, this will be an interesting combination as Kuminga has already stated his admiration towards Jimmy Butler.
Jonathan Kuminga Admires Jimmy Butler
Putting behind the fiasco with the Miami Heat, Jimmy Butler seems to have turned a new leaf. Joining the Warriors, Butler made his impact in his first game. As the Warriors clinched a 132-111 victory over the Chicago Bulls, Jimmy Butler scored an impressive 25 points. And this seems to have left Jonathan Kuminga mightily impressed. Struggling to find his rhythm, Kuminga expressed his desire to follow the Jimmy Butler blueprint for success.
According to an earlier update from Anthony Slater, Kuminga pointed at Butler and said, “I like that guy.”

Kuminga now has a veteran who is a direct example of how he should model his game, both offensively and defensively, in Jimmy Butler.
Thus, with Kuminga coming in, the duo of him and Butler will surely be a treat to watch. However, how successful will the pairing be is a question that only Father Time can answer.
