Jrue Holiday was one of the key pieces behind the Boston Celtics’ record-breaking 18th NBA title. Holiday is now a fan favorite and, apparently, a coaching model as well. His unselfish play and leadership on the court have caught the attention of coaches around the league, including former Phoenix Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer.
Reports recently surfaced that Budenholzer wanted Suns guard Bradley Beal to play more like Holiday. However, Beal wasn’t happy with that direction, which added to the tension within the Suns’ locker room. Now, with Budenholzer no longer coaching the team, Holiday’s name is back in the spotlight.
On Tuesday, Holiday addressed the situation and admitted he was caught off guard. Though Holiday understands the comparison might have come from a good place, he’s not thrilled about being brought into a situation that had nothing to do with him.
“I guess I have nothing to say because this is the first time I’m hearing about it. I also don’t know what he meant by saying that. But we are different players. Brad is an elite scorer, and he’s had somewhat of an off year. So I feel like things are different,” Holiday said.

Before the result of the play-in game between the Atlanta Hawks and the Orlando Magic was known, Holiday was asked whether he planned to tune in and watch the game that would determine who the Celtics would face in the first round. Holiday shared a refreshingly honest answer, which proves family still comes first for Holiday.
“It depends on what my kids want to do,” Holiday said.
In the end, the Magic came out on top with a 120-95 victory over the Hawks. With that win, Orlando secured the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference and will now face the defending champions in the opening round of the playoffs.
