New York Knicks forward Karl-Anthony Towns faces uncertainty ahead of the team’s first win in Game 5 in the Eastern Conference finals. Towns appeared to injure his knee during the Knicks’ 130-121 Game 4 loss to the Indiana Pacers. The defeat pushed the Knicks to the brink of elimination.
The incident occurred late in the fourth quarter when Towns put his knees down with Pacers forward Aaron Nesmith. Towns immediately went down, clutching his knee in visible pain, and remained on the floor for a considerable time. Though he managed to return and finish the game, his timing was visibly limited, and he looked hobbled for the remainder of the contest.
Karl-Anthony Towns’ Injury Status Remains In The Air Ahead Of Must-Win Game 5

Even though the scare, head coach Tom Thibodeau tried to remain optimistic about the situation.” It was a good thing that Towns was able to get back into the game. Thibodeau added that Towns will be evaluated ahead of Thursday’s Game 5.” Thibodeau told reporters postgame.
Towns declined to discuss his damage in detail, keeping the focus on the loss. “I’m only thinking about this loss; I’m not thinking about that right now,” he said during the post-game interview.
Losing Towns would make a significant hole in the Knicks’ depth, as they are already trailing 3-11 in the series. The All-Star averaged 25.8 points and 11.5 rebounds in four games, including a 24-point, 12-rebound performance in Game 4. He was a key instrument in the team’s Game 3 success and anchored his team consistently on both ends of the court.
The Knicks say Towns is day-to-day, and more information on his injury will come after his evaluation. If Towns can’t play or can’t make his strong presence for the upcoming battle, the Pacers will have substantial control and lead to the finals. As the series approaches the end, and the situation is do or die, Towns’ availability could be a key for the Knicks to come back in the series.
