Kevin Durant’s time with the Phoenix Suns could be nearing its end as multiple teams are expected to make a push for the superstar forward this summer.
After nearly being traded at the deadline, Durant’s future in Phoenix remains uncertain, with reports suggesting he has lost trust in the franchise. The San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Miami Heat are among the teams to pursue the 15-time All-Star if he becomes available, per Hoops Wire.

Durant, 36, is still one of the best scorers in the NBA, averaging 27.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game this season while shooting an efficient 53.2% from the field and 40.4% from beyond the arc. His elite scoring ability and championship experience make him a highly coveted asset for contending teams.
The Suns originally acquired him in a blockbuster deal with the Brooklyn Nets in 2023 and the team has struggled to meet expectations, currently sitting outside the top eight in the Western Conference standings. Given their disappointing playoff performances over the past two seasons and their bloated $230 million payroll, Phoenix could look to reset by trading Durant for significant assets.
Kevin Durant’s Potential Destinations And Trade Considerations
The Heat aggressively pursued a Durant trade at the deadline and remains a top suitor. Reports indicate that Miami considered sending Jimmy Butler to Phoenix in exchange for Durant, but negotiations ultimately fell through. Heat president Pat Riley has long pursued Durant, dating back to the superstar’s 2016 free agency. Meanwhile, the Lakers could also enter the discussion, though their ability to acquire Durant may hinge on whether they are willing to include crucial pieces like Austin Reaves in a potential deal.
The Rockets are another serious contender, sitting fourth in the Western Conference and just one piece away from legitimate title contention. With a combination of young talent and veteran pieces, the Rockets have the flexibility to put together an enticing package. They could offer a combination of draft picks and players such as Jalen Green, whose 21 PPG scoring ability makes him a valuable trade asset. The team can leverage its $44M option on Fred VanVleet for Durant.

The Spurs present an intriguing option as well. The Spurs have the assets to make a strong offer, and pairing Durant with Victor Wembanyama could be a game-changing move. Durant has spoken highly of Wembanyama, and under Gregg Popovich’s leadership, the duo could form a lethal inside-outside attack. The Spurs sacrificed trade capital at the deadline and may now struggle to offer a compelling deal.
Durant, set to earn $54.7 million next season in his final contract year, will likely choose his next destination. Any team trading for him will want assurance that he is willing to re-sign beyond 2026. If a deal happens, it could be the final major move of Durant’s stellar career.
