A few weeks have passed since Kyrie Irving suffered a devastating ACL tear. It forced him to miss the remainder of the Dallas Mavericks’ season. Since then, Irving has stayed connected with fans through social media.
In his latest livestream on Twitch, the Mavericks star took the opportunity to call out former NBA players who have transitioned into media roles. Irving criticized their approach to discussing the current generation of athletes.
“They have lost their way. I’m talking to some of the former players too, they have lost their way. There are some former players that just be talking chat s— on like. You don’t even be talking about anything, all you do is hate on younger players,” Irving said.
Beyond his criticism of the media, Irving also expressed his frustration with how injured players are perceived. The star guard pushed back against the common notion that NBA players, because of their wealth and fame, are not allowed to show emotions or frustrations when dealing with injuries.
“I’m so sick of that f—— excuse, bro. You’re not allowed to feel because you make a lot of money in the NBA and you get paid. People on Twitter are crucifying people that are making millions of dollars because they’re not playing in the game because they’re injured,” he added.

Mark Cuban recently appeared on the Your Mom’s House podcast, where he adressed the possibility of Irving being traded. The billionaire businessman made it clear that he doesn’t pay attention to the constant speculation surrounding his team.
“I don’t watch the rumor mill. That makes no sense whatsoever. I love Kyrie too. Maybe they’re trying to get rid of the people I like. Somebody comes in, takes over a new company, and gets rid of the old guys,” Cuban said.
The possibility of a trade involving Irving wouldn’t be entirely shocking to Mavericks fans. This season, the Mavs entertained the idea of trading Luka Doncic midseason. The fact that the Mavericks were open to such a monumental shift in their roster has led some to believe that no player, no matter their stature, is untouchable.
