The Los Angeles Lakers started the year terribly, fought to be in the play-in game, and then made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals. Unfortunately for them, that is where their story would end as they were unmatched playing against the Denver Nuggets and got swept out of the playoffs.
Now, it’s time to talk about next season.
The Lakers’ 2022-23 season came to an end Monday night when they fell 113-111 to the Denver Nuggets in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals
With both LeBron James and Anthony Davis missing significant time during the regular season, the Lakers had to go through the play-in tournament to reach the playoffs but the team started to gel at the right time after the trade-deadline acquisitions of D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Rui Hachimura made a significant difference.
Ultimately, the Lakers had no answers for Jokić, who is averaging a triple-double during the playoffs and was named Western Conference Finals MVP.
Being a seventh seed and in the Western Conference Finals is outstanding, but LeBron is a man who wants to compete for a championship.
Young’s presence on the Lakers would do nothing to stop Jokic, but he would certainly play much better than Russell did. The two-time All-Star boasts career averages of 25.5 points, 9.3 assists, 3.7 rebounds, 2.5 made three-pointers, and 1.0 steals per game.
