LeBron James just wrapped up his 22nd season in the NBA as the league’s longest-tenured active player. Since entering the league in 2003, he’s been a living bridge between generations.
While most of his peers have long since retired, James continues to defy time and expectations. But instead of celebrating the evolution of the sport, he believes some of the legends he once admired have turned into harsh critics, casting a shadow over the modern game.
In a recent episode of his Mind the Game podcast, LeBron didn’t hold back as he addressed what he sees as unfair criticism from former players. With visible frustration, James called out the older generation of NBA stars for consistently bashing today’s league and players.
“I loved it growing up. I mean, s**t — the older generation makes you not want to love the game that I grew up watching. Like, I grew up loving a Knicks vs. Bulls playoff series. Or Pacers vs. Knicks playoff series. I loved that,” LeBron said.
“Seeing Charles Barkley play in Phoenix, like take his talents to Phoenix and help them get to the Finals, was so f***ing dope. But now, that generation talks so much s*** about the game today, it makes you go back and watch those old games. It makes you not even want to appreciate them the way you did as a kid,” he added.

On the latest episode of his podcast, LeBron James shared a hopeful update regarding his recent knee injury. The injury occurred during Game 5 of the conference semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves. James appeared more optimistic than in previous updates.
“Like I said last episode, it’s been a hell of a lot better. It’s getting better, though; it’s getting better. That’s the most challenging thing,” James said.
James sustained a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee during the game. The injury happened after he collided with Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo while trying to get back on defense. That same night, the Lakers not only lost Game 5 but were officially eliminated from the playoffs, dropping the series 4-1.
